For the past several months I have been involved in creating and launching KCMJ, a local community radio station. What is a community radio station? Well it is a low powered station that will broadcast at 93.9FM in Colorado Springs. It is a station ran completely by volunteers such as myself, it is a commercial free station operated by the non-profit organization Colorado Media Justice Foundation. The goal of the station is to bring a voice to those who don’t have a voice and also to bring programming that commercial stations won’t do, such as my show Front Range Radio that supports and plays independent artists.
Last night the station had is crowdfunding countdown party. We were celebrating the end of our indiegogo campaign in which we were trying to raise $20,000 to buy equipment, a transmitter, build a tower and get studio space. Unfortunately we fell short of our goal but the party was a success in that we were able to get the word out about the station. The party featured three local bands that sounded great. Below are photos of the bands that performed at the celebration.
