The duo Paige Brubeck vocals/guitar/keys and Evan Sult drums/vocals/tapes that is out of my hometown St. Louis via Chicago (I’ll ignore the Chicago connection) released their second CD in January Projection Room. The band, as they describe on their website, “began to take shape at the end of 2008, when Evan Sult, who was drumming for Chicago’s Bound Stems after an eight-year stint in late-’90s alt-radio band Harvey Danger, met Paige Brubeck at a party. She was studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and playing in the all-girl band Stiletto Attack”
One of the interesting songs on the CD for me was “What Are You Gonna Do When You Find Bigfoot”, a song in which the duo question the hunters of the famed Sasquatch asking what they are going to do if they ever do find Bigfoot. “Godard Protagonist Inflection,” is a song the duo says was “inspired by Brigitte Bardot’s doomed character in Jean Luc Godard’s 1963 stunner Contempt.” There is even a song about the Six Flags roller coaster “Batman: The Ride”.
Overall the CD is an enjoyable CD, taking the listener on a journey with songs that are inspired by many different film and other art forms. The sound is different yet enjoyable for me.
