Yes, I know the title was not very original however it is what kept coming to my mind when listening to and reading about Alina Smith. Alina, was born just outside of St. Petersburg Russia. Her mother, a foreign language teacher, spoke English to her and her brother along with her mother, played a lot of American music in the house as Alina was growing up. By the time Alina was six, she taught herself how to play piano. She would later join the group “Aurora” that played 50+ shows a year in Europe. Alina moved in with a relative who lived in Las Vegas and continued to do live shows. She moved to New York, Los Angeles and now lives in Nashville.
Her music has been described as Gretchen Wilson meets Ke$ha as you can hear in her song “Bad at Being Good” a country rock rap type song with a video that is all about partying.
If you are looking for a more serious song, consider her song “That Tall” the acoustic version you can download off her bandcamp page http://alinasmith.bandcamp.com/track/that-tall-acoustic
She does a great job with the song, just her, a piano, and lyrics of encouragement.
Good show tonight!
Thank you!
