Every once in a while a CD comes a long that is meant to be listened to in its entirety to really understand it. Sure you can pull a single off it but I think that single loses some of its meaning being separated from the CD as a whole. One such CD is Beauty in the Breakdown by Jean Morisson. The CD as she describes on her website “is a collection of stories, impeccably set to song, chronicling the singer-songwriter’s journey of the many human layers of a relationship from passion, love and the broken end” The songs take the listener on Jean’s journey through the relationship from beginning to its bitter end.
Nile Rodgers, who has worked with David Bowie, Madonna, and Duran Duran to name a few, makes an appearance on Beauty in the Breakdown along with Vernon Reid and Raymond Angry. Nile worked with Jean and her band MorissonPoe signing them to his Sumthing label and producing their 2007 CD Evolution. Nile returns playing guitars on the track “Naughty”
This is one CD, that after listening to it, I wonder why more people have not discovered it. The vocals, lyrics, and beat rivals anything being played on mainstream radio right now. “Open Up the Box” and “Naughty” are both good dance tunes and the opening guitar licks on “Better Than You” grabbed me into the song. I enjoyed listening to this CD more than I expected.
Not only has she released a great CD, Jean also has a clothing line POPaROXY that premiered on June 1, 2013 at Passion Fashion Show in Raleigh NC. You can learn more about Jean and her music at http://jeanmorisson.com and her clothing line at http://poparoxy.net
