This Sunday is the 91st running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, it is a race against time to the top of Pikes Peak along a two lane highway with many sharp curves and very few guard rails to keep you on the road. The road to the top is now completely paved, 91 years ago when the race first started the road was dirt and gravel, it has not been until recent years that the road has been paved.
The Friday before the race there is a Fan Fest held in downtown Colorado Springs where you can see the cars, meet the drivers, sample chili from a chili cooking contest involving the various fire departments, and watch a motorcycle stunt show. I have been going to Fan Fest for each of the last three years I have lived in Colorado, for me it is just cool to see all the cars and motorcycles that will compete in the race.
Here are some photos from this years Fan Fest and the motorcycle stunt show.
Great photos! I love racing! 🙂
Thank you. It’s interesting to see the cars up close
