This week on Front Range Radio, the show will be a little different. The second half of the show will feature music from Smallz the Cat and Arthur Lee Land, you can read about Mr Land in Fridays’ post. The first half of the show will feature an interview I did with Marc Olson the Executive Director of Musicians In Action.
The very first sentence on the groups website http://www.musiciansinaction.org I think really sums it up best
“Mobilizing the underutilized (musicians) to aid the underprivileged (Colorado’s homeless).”
I first encountered Musicians In Action by attending the Root 40 concert series in April. The group was collecting can goods to stock a local pantry that helps the homeless in addition to bringing together a days worth of musicians from around Colorado to perform. Musicians In Action puts on a variety of concerts in and around the Denver area to help the agencies that help the homeless. The issue of homelessness is not a Denver issue, it is not a Colorado issue. It is an issue that every city, every state, every country has whether it is visible or not.
Marc talks about how the organization came about and him seeing first hand the homeless issue when two former band mates became homeless. Many musicians understand being homeless as many have couched surf from one friends house to another, thus Marc is able to get the talents of these musicians to hold the various concerts. Marc and his fellow volunteer members of Musicians In Action do a lot to help the underprivileged.
I encourage you to listen to the interview, and then find out how you can help regardless if you live in Denver or somewhere else. You can hear the show at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/frontrangeradio.
