I heard Elvis’ song “Peace Love and Understanding” on the radio today. It has been a long time sInce I had heard this song. The song as a whole is a great song, but there is one line in the song that got me thinking.
“What’s so funny about ’bout peace, love and understanding”
Peace. Love. Understanding. Three simple words, yet they seem to be such hard words for the human race to comprehend much less enact. Three simple words yet when I look around not just the world, but my country, even my state, there seems to be a lack of peace, love, and understanding. Why?
Look at the first verse of the song:
As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin’ for light in the darkness of insanity.I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery? And each time i feel like this inside,
There’s one thing i wanna know:
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding?
Has things changed any since 1974 when that song was first released? If they have I don’t think for the better. I think those lyrics still hold up today. “Is all hope lost?” Please tell me it is not. We can make a change but do we really want to or would we rather leave it to someone else?
Here is a video to the song, I ask that you listen to the lyrics, google the lyrics even, the lyrics are just as powerful today as in 1974.
I think most of it is because we no longer have a sense of community. There is no we, only me,me,me. I think it is a huge problem! So yes….I agree.
You are correct we have become a me, me, me society. We don’t seem to care about others.
I agree things haven’t changed for the better since that song was written. I was just talking with another blogger about how most don’t even have compassion for neighbors. It is a sad state we are in when it comes to this. Thank you for this post
You are right most don’t have compassion for their neighbors most people don’t take the time to even know their neighbor.
Never heard this song before so when you described it in your post, I thought it would be the slow song. Then, I listened to the song and got surprised how lively the song are. Thank you for sharing.
