Nostalgia Tuesday

For some reason I am feeling nostalgic today. I’m writing this while listening to the new Depeche Mode Album. Ok I know there really is no such things as albums anymore, heck cds are almost extinct. I loved Depeche Mode back in the day. I was the only one in my circle of friends who enjoyed the new wave sound. My friends where only into what was played on KSHE 95 (radio station in St Louis). Me, my taste went a little further than the classic rock. Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths, I enjoyed them all and more, I still do.

I came across these two construction vehicles tonight while walking the dog. It reminded me of when I was a young scribbler and playing with my Tonka Toys. I had the big yellow dump truck and the grader. Those Tonka Toys you couldn’t destroy. Mine got so much abuse, and of course when I got older the abuse seemed to intensify. Fire crackers were used as dynamite, bottle rocks were used to torpedo the truck. We would smash the trucks head on into each other. You know the destructive stuff boys will do. It’s amazing how a simple toy like that provided hours of entertainment. There were no Playstations or Xboxs. The only video games were the ones we created in our heads.

How I miss the days of my youth.

I still haven’t heard the new album. How is it?

  3. When I started listening to music in alternative/brit pop/ brit rock and other genres besides pop or rock, I also tried songs by Depeche Mode but not the cure or the Smiths. Although I wasn’t a fan of Depeche Mode, one of my all-time favorite songs is their song called ‘Somebody’, I was crying while I was firstly listening to this song covered by Thai band in a concert. I was totally drawn into song’s lyrics.

I heard about Depeche mode’s new album in 2013 too but I haven’t got a chance to listen to their new song.

    And mine.

As I read this I was reminded of a time when there were no portable DVD players in cars. And we had to…wait for it…we had to actually have conversations! 🙂
