Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge Water

Snow comes from water so for this weeks challenge I have selected photos from the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championship in Breckenridge CO. This year will be the 23rd year for the competition. Teams from all over the world will compete for bragging rights. Sculpting week is January 22-26th with judging on the 27th and the sculptures will remain up until February 3rd unless they melt or fall apart which does happen.

These pictures are just a sampling of the sculptures from 2011 and 2012.

  4. Wow…just wow! I never knew such an art form existed, the detail is amazing.

  5. Medusa was quite scary but this time she was the one who was frozen, not us who saw her eyes. And the third one, what was that?

    • The third one is Satyagraha. Here is the description of the sculpture from the program:

“Diversity is fundamental part of human nature. Despite many thoughts, many actions, and manifestations of human conditions, one thing remains: The human spirit. Our sculpture represents the human spirit inside a kind of a human being with four arms, no hands, and two faces. The term “satyagraha” was conceived and developed by Mahatma Gandhi. He deployed satyagraha in the Indian independence movement and also during his earlier struggles in South Africa.”
